RiX PLACE -- A Music Hall!

God graced me with a nice-sized room in my new house and I decided to fill one end of it with musical equipment and amplifiers.  The equipment cost me a pretty penny to bring into Belize (read about that here) but I'm sharing it with my friends and former students.  So far, we have two or three events going a week, and we are planning more.

First, here is the room, full of equipment.  PA Amp, Three Guitar Amps, Bass Amp, keyboard, and the drums (which belong to Brad Moore.). Lots of microphones, music stands, and fans!  Oh -- and a washboard!

Features:  Tile floor.  Room is handy to the kitchen (beer, water, etc.)  The big wooden thing on the left is a box we used to enclose Freddie Martinez while he is playing lead guitar with Christina.  (more on Freddie later.)   New:  Click here to see what we've done to the room.

One thing you can't see well from the door is my steel guitar.

It is a 1982 Dekley, with three pedals and three knee levers.  It is probably the only pedal steel guitar in Belize.  And, if I can learn to play it, I will be the only PSG player!!

I practice about two hours a day, mostly with headphones.  I have a cable --made from an old extension cord -- that comes from my laptop into the music room, and I can pipe CD's or Band-In-A-Box accompaniment to listen to and practice with.  Learning to play PSG is absolutely the hardest thing I have every tried to do, including climbing 14,000 foot peaks.  (I have acrophobia.)

I was afraid that the hall would be full of echoes, and terribly loud, but it's not.  I have two large speaker enclosures (not too big) and they are just about right for this room.  All together, a good place to play or listen to music.

We have a number of groups practicing at the music hall so far.  Click here to see how we're doing.

Or, click here to take a tour of RIX Place.
