REQUIREMENTS FOR BECOMING A PERMANENT RESIDENT

Benefits for permanent residents include:

  • Freedom to come and go without tourist charges

  • Ability to work without special work permits

Requirements:

1. Must reside permanently in Belize for one year.

2. Pay a fee of $675 US.

3. Evidence that you have been a legal tourist during your residence (this is fulfilled by a replica of your passport.)

4.  Police certificates of character

5.  Health certificate and Chest X-ray

6.  Evidence that you have a monthly income of $1000 US or more

Gotchas....this takes a year of residence, and then they may turn down your application!

Newer:  Here is another description of the requirements for permanent residence.  You can tell that it is pretty old because of the phone numbers. (They changed to 3+4 in 2004.)

Newest: Look here to read Lan Sluder's excellent analysis of the options.  .
