PALAPA PIX -- PART 2

The roof is going on and the structure starts to look like a palapa.  Notice, in the foreground,  the ladder that Salvatore built to get up into the structure.  It proved to be too flimsy for the job -- although Mr. Ed took it as a souvenir of the adventure!  The other one behind it (to the right) is heavy heavy heavy.  We put more rungs on it, and still use it around the house.

By now, the trailer is completely covered with thatch (and hairy thatch at that) and Salvatore sits atop the structure in triumph!

This is the finished palapa, trimmed up and looking like a respectable part of the neighborhood!  There is something magical about a palapa -- even though the temperature in the sun is 130°, people in the shade feel cool, and the actual measured temperature will be about 40° lower!

(Below) Because he appreciates our business, Salvatore goes out to the bush (actually around Laguna Ranchito) and collects a bunch of orchids to install around the palapa.  Here you can see his family, putting in the orchids on the support poles for the palapa while Mr. Ed looks on.

The proof of the pudding -- Senora Carlotta relaxing in her hamaca, strung between two of the support poles in the veranda of the palapa.
