Jazz Guitar
About my guitars. I have three
guitars. One is a "beater" -- a Japanese flattop with a
bolt-on neck (a la Fender.) It looks like a ho-hummer, but the neck is
sweet. I take it to class to play for my music students. Two
is a 1995 Fender Jag-Stang. The Jag-stang was a marriage of the Jaguar and
the Mustang, created by Curt Cobain. You can find out all about it at www.jag-stang.com.
I modified mine for jazz by replacing the neck pickup with a Gibson Johnny Smith
Humbucker. You can see a picture of it here.
Three is a 1952 Gibson ES-140, modified to look almost exactly like a little
bitty ES-175. It is for sale, and you can see it in detail here.
New, I
replaced my Fender with a little Fender Squier "Mini. It has the same size
fingerboard, and I just love it.
My playing experience. I got my
first guitar at 14, and I bought my Gibson ES-140 in 1953 (I was 17). Since then,
I've been a sideman and a leader in dozens of bands -- never playing full-time
for more than a couple of weeks at a time. I played Jazz and C&W in
Arizona, "Mickey" in LA, Jazz and C&W in Denver, and then played
with a Country Trio for almost 10 years in Colorado Springs. My last job
in COS was a "sweet gig" (as my drummer Bob Roades liked to say)
playing Dinner Jazz at Molicas Italian Restaurant every
Friday.
New: I
went back to Colorado Springs and played at Mollicas with TuneTown from Dec 2003
until November 2004.. I am now back in Corozal, preparing to open my music
hall. Details forthcoming.
