Copper Bank

Copper Bank is a little village on Laguna Seca, so called because it has occasionally dried up to a channel.  In fact, today, it is a beautiful lake, full of fish, and a gateway to Corozal Bay and Bacalar Chico.  Copper Bank is a charming little fishing village, crime free, and home to The Last Resort.

Getting to Copper Bank

It used to be really tough to get to Copper Bank from Corozal.  You had to go to Orange Walk and come back through Progresso to the little town on the far banks of Laguna Seca.  Today it is a snap.
Going south out of Corozal, turn left at the sign for "Tony's."  Follow that road to the first T and take a right jog (right and then left)  Now you're on the New River Road and you're heading for the ferry.  A couple of little turns, and 3 miles, and you get to the Pueblo Nuevo Ferry; a sugar barge which crosses the New River.  What a charming ride!

After leaving the ferry, there are signs that will lead you to the town of Copper Bank, and you can follow more signs to the Last Resort, or cruise around the village.  (Ten minutes cruising along the lakefront will do it nicely!!)
The Last Resort
Donna Noland & Enrique Flores started the Last Resort in 1990, when Copper Bank was accessible by road from Orange Walk.  The drive from Corozal was about 50 miles.  The food is great, and there are lots of things for kids to do on the laguna, swimming, canoeing, fishing, tearing around in the zoysia grass which covers the resort like a thick green carpet.  However, it took the ferry to make the road accessible to Senor Reek y Sus Amigos and their myriad friends.   (Click here for many more pictures. Be patient.))

New:  We don't play there any more but it was great while it lasted!    Newer:  Donna & Enrique have sold the Last Resort.  If you have recent information, please write me.

Roland's Hotel    [new]

Roland needed something to do besides watch his crops grow so he built a hotel.  It's become the local watering hole!  It is called The Copperbank Inn and Roland has a webiste here.   Roland is a neat guy.  If you see him, say hi and ask him to write me!!

If you have visited Roland's Hotel, or if you have more information about it, would you please write me.
