Carlos Cruz, Shipwright

Carlos Cruz was one of the premier ship-builders in Sarteneja -- the little fishing village eighteen miles east of us on the bay -- until he moved to Corozal.  Here he plies his trade in the shade behind the old Capri -- the burned out nightclub/hotel which is a story in itself.

Carlos can build you a boat from scratch from Honduras Mahogany (or better) or he can repair just about anything that floats.  Here, he's working on a typical Belizean fishing boat.  When he finishes, it will look like new!

Below, left -- Carlos caulking.    Right:  His helper Alex, also caulking. (They use space-age tools like a Roto-Zip for cutting, but some things go better the old fashioned way. )
