Caye Caulker
Caye Caulker (pronounced "Key Cawker") is mis-named "Cay Corker" on the good map, but various government signs around the island assure us that it is actually Caye Caulker.
When Charlotte and I hit CC in 1998, I thought..."This
is it, this is where I want to stay." Charlotte was really
taken with Corozal, however, and we argued about it for a while. She
pointed out the stark truth that, in a hurricane, CC would lose it's charm.
I eventually came to the conclusion that a Rich Gringo (not
like me) could buy a place in Corozal to keep all his valuable stuff, and then
buy or build a "little grass shack" or hut in CC and stay there when
it was nice. Leave when the hurricane chased everyone
away. I still think that's a good idea.
New. Here is a brand new article from the Detroit Free
Press, about a Gringa's visit to Caye Caulker. It tells me that CC is
still very much like it was when I fell in love with it in 1998!
CHEERS TO BELIZE: Everybody knows your name on friendly, tiny
Caye Caulker
If you want to take my advice and buy a place, Wendy Auxillou
is the person to see. "The Queen of Caye Caulke.r" she has
places to rent and places to sell. See her here.
